Well, I got to thinking. Here's a serious question…"Why the hell should you be spending your valuable time here at BitCandy Music Filter?!" I mean aren't there like a gazillion other websites? Sure. Maybe even a gazillion + 1. (… and don't we all love +1's?)
So, I decided I wanted to do one thing. I wanted to impress you. And I know that's not easy. No doubt, there are other sites to visit, so what makes BitCandy worth your time? And why should you be hanging with BitCandy instead of doing your TPS reports at work? Haha.
Well, I thought I'd share what makes us completely different… and what might also impress you. And in some radical cases, like our Curator concept (see point #2 below), I'm really trying to evolve music discovery and give you the credit and social authority for your music finds (and GET PAID in the process).
So, without further ado… here's (drum roll…) '10 Reasons To Adore Us' at BitCandy.
1) Shock and Awe… We pay royalties to artists and songwriters played on BitCandy! We feel this is extremely important as BitCandy supports artists financially as well as creatively. BitCandy is officially licensed and pays royalties to ASCAP, BMI, SESAC and SoundExchange.
2) We're giving YOU the front page credit for your music discoveries!
In "Curator," you can earn the artist badge and bragging rights for an artist discovery, which only you will have. There's only one artist badge per curator. The way I figure it, (let's be honest)… it was probably someone like yourself who was really the first to discover Arcade Fire, M.I.A., Kid Cudi or Joanna Newsom. And you know what? That person usually gets the proverbial shaft and never gets the credit. Now, we're giving that credit to you. So… damn, get started Curating already! Claim your artist discovery badge right here on Curator.
3) BitCandy has a digital label/marketing/publishing division. And we're signing! If you own the Curator badge for any artist we sign, we'll GIVE YOU 20% of whatever we make for that specific signing! Yes… this is not a misprint.
4) Write for BitCandy and unlock your Columnist Credentials. That's right… Submit Your Reviews and Editorials! Once you have Curator status, you can submit reviews and stories for our blog. If we love what you're saying, we'll officially post it with a link back to your blog, website or social media page to drive traffic back to you. We pay $15 per blog post, review or editorial. Now you can get immediate access to a larger audience with hundreds and maybe thousands of people reading your own views and opinions. We support independent voices and would love to get your ideas to the biggest audience possible. (This feature is only available for approved Curators.)
5) For every song or artist on BitCandy, you can click the 'Artist Info / Stream' button to get the deep linkage for each song. That means you can watch the video, go to the artist's FaceBook, Wiki, or MySpace page, Rate the song, Facebook Like, Tweet it or Buy/Stream the song at Spotify or Itunes! BitCandy makes it super easy to dig deeper and 'get social' once you find a song or artist you love.
6) We've partnered with Blogolator, the Curated Audio/Video reader for Music Blogs. This is an amazing new site. Blogolator scans only the most authoritative tastemaker blogs from: Indie, Electro, Pop and Hip Hop and organizes the entire Blogosphere in one viewable and easy to manage stream.
With Blogolator, now you don't have to go through 75-100 individual music blogs a day… (and hey, which are the very best music blogs anyway?) Don't worry, we got that covered. Updated every 24 hours, we only focus on the most discerning and authoritative blogs, bringing you a news feed of only the best. All the original files and embedded videos posted by the original blogger come along with the text extract in Blogolator. So yeah, you can totally 'one up' all your friends with the latest breaking music on Blogolator. Check it out here www.Blogolator.com
7) We'll never ever play Nickleback. Unless it's a Wolfgang Gartner remix.
8) BitCandy is not just a Music Blog or Internet Radio station. BitCandy is something different. I'm calling it a Music Filter, where everything amazing in cutting edge music and culture can come together in one place. The way I look at it is like this… everything is on the Internet. And anyone (including you) can upload anything to ITunes (even that snotty nosed rich kid down the street who thinks he's the next street hip hop artist). On one hand, if you love shitty hip hop music… this is great. Because now, getting a song on ITunes, BeatPort, Spotify etc is accessible to everyone. Yes! This is a mega problem. I just learned that 75,000-80,000 albums are released per year. This is a fact, not an exaggeration. And then add to this: thousands of Music Blog postings (daily), 100s of monthly Reviews from Spin, Pitchfork, Filter, Fader, XLR8R, Under The Radar, NEM… yada yada. And you have a real total mess. I think this is the big question today: "How can someone efficiently discover only the best new music?"
What we need right now is not another music service, not another social media platform, download store, blog, etc., but an amazing and trusted music filter that can… in a way… 'sit' and be a trusted voice on top of all of this Internet and music chaos… and make sense of it. Cuz I don't have time to look for a needle in a haystack. Just give me the best!
At BitCandy, we want to help organize it all, because we think the chaos is just getting started. Your time is valuable. So, our vision and goal is to bring you only the very best handpicked music discovery experience… with the help of our BitCandy community. The Trusted Filter concept is what we believe will be next most important new trend on the net.
9) Unlimited Skipping! Well kinda. Yes, this works for our Free Internet Radio! Just click "Open internet Radio" on the main page to access the filtered best of the web via our own Internet Radio. Clicking the Playlist 1 2 3 button puts you into 'hyperspace' somewhere in our Playlist for that module.
10) Ok, So you might be asking: Who are you and why should I trust you? Well, good question. And you know… I'd probably be asking the same thing. Basically, we've been doing this a long time already. Not just as a website. The creator of this site (uh, that's me)… for a young music exec, has one of the best track records for signing and discovering many of the best artists in the music business. I can't say as much as I want to right now… more will be revealed later.
11) We hand pick everything. Sure, that might not be so different from most music blogs, but it gives me a chance to take a rant on computerized recommendation i.e. the Pandora's of the world. In my opinion, computers will never be able to get it really 'right.' Personalized human taste and emotion is where it's at.
For instance, if you're on Pandora and you like Sleigh Bells, the next song you might get served could be a Major Lazer song, because it's in the "indie" genre. Now, it might not be the best Major Lazer song… in fact, It might be the worst. Or who knew that an Ennio Morricone track right after Sleigh Bells' "Infinity Guitars" might sound quite simply amazing in a mix?! And just because Sleigh Bells might be categorized as "aggressive guitars," "heavy beats," "distorted vocals"… it doesn't mean I'm going to like a Ministry song that's tagged with the same attributes!
And for sure, Pandora is a great service for a specific thing (um, I call it casual listening). But I might not want to listen to 3 hours straight of one specific algorithm (i.e. 3 hours of 'Sleigh Bells' type music… even though I love them). At BitCandy we mix it up just by playing just the "A" genre which stands for "Awesome."
12) This is going to be surprising for you to hear but guess what? We totally want the current music business to fail. Yes we said it. Just read our 'About – Manifesto' page. The old system just doesn't work anymore and you guessed it, the system mostly supports total ass crap. Yes, we want the current music business to fail… and then be there to help reconstruct it… putting music, artists and you, as a Curator, listener and lover of music, first and foremost. We'd so totally love for you to help and join our little Revolution. Register Here for BitCandy. (Register button is in upper right hand corner).
13) This last one is actually quite important. BitCandy is owned by musicians and songwriters and was created by one. Thus, we care deeply about supporting great music and artists, signed or unsigned.
Furthermore, BitCandy is not created by a blogging geekzoid nor under ownership of some other company like Idolator (AOL) and Stereogum (oops did I say that). Yes, it's true… your favorite Stereogum indie blog is owned by BuzzNet.com, which is funded and co-owned by none other than venture capitalists! (Anthem Venture Partners and Redpoint Ventures). BuzzNet also supports Tila Tequilla and her site tilashotspot.com. Hmm… Stereogum doesn't sound so indie any more do they? It's hard for BuzzNet to be indie with $25 Million but I guess they are managing. LOL.
So far, we're running the site out of my apartment. We'll see what happens.
But since we are songwriters and musicians ourselves…we put music first…money / finances become secondary. Thus, you'll notice that we aren't whoring the front page out with obtrusive ads and other branding.

Well damn!, did I say 10 things you might like about us?! Well, I got to typing and… you know how it goes. So, I added 3 additional items that I thought were pretty cool and wanted to share. Sorry you can't redeem those 3 bonus points at the local arcade or for a ham sandwich or something.
Lastly, I wanted to say "Thank You" for reading this. I sincerely hope you enjoy BitCandy. If you agree with any of the above, feel free to share this link by "Liking" or "Tweeting" it or simply pass along via the additional shared links.
It sounds cheesy but it really goes a log way to "Like" or "Friend" us at Facebook or follow us at Twitter (@BitCandy), that way we'll know that you support what we're doing, what we stand for and our little revolution at BitCandy.
