BEST ALTERNATIVE POP - WEEK 34

8/20/15

When your air conditioning unit isn’t working as it should because the weather has been too damn hot, don’t panic. We here at BitCandy totally get it and sympathize with your agony. Hang in there, just a couple more weeks before we get some relief from the cooler fall weather. In the meantime, you can always count on us to help you get into a refreshing mindset with our weekly indie pop recommendations. This week’s lineup featuring Banners, Echo, Sticky Blood and others will do you just right. Grab a cold one and dive in.

KIIARA - FEELS

The Illinois dark pop indie songstress made a memorable impression on us with her debut single “Gold.” Continuing on with a somber dark pop sound, her latest track “Feels” produced by Felix Snow, is rounded out with a sultry beat accompanied with delicate vocals that leave you wanting to hear more.

BANNERS - SHINE A LIGHT

Former indie solo act RAINES is back with a new name and a delicious new song. “Shine A Light” showcases BANNERS’ perfectly emotive vocals and a message that pretty much gives you motivation to keep on pushin. And I hope BANNERS/RAINES/ Or whatever name he choses to go by keeps on pushing with his music because our ears could use more of his sound.

LOREN - ECHO

Alright all you cool kids, get your bibs out because you are about to drool all over this intoxicating sound. Coming in at just 15 years of age, Loren will soon be taking over the airways. What makes this track interesting? The smooth texture and deliverance show maturity beyond the artist's’ years. How is it possible for someone so young to comprehend what someone my age is unable to wrap their mind around?

STICKY BLOOD FEATURING HEKKY - PROFESSIONAL

Heads up you guys! Sticky Blood is  hot, hot, hot and they’re leaving their distinctive mark . “Professional” is s a dark and bass heavy track featuring the vocals of upcoming artist Hecky. The self created and direct video is just as hypnotic as the audio. Take a listen for yourself above.

FALCONS - BOSS MACKIN’ FEAT A-1

I’m a sucker for booty bouncing bangers. Producer Falcons has dropped one of his strongest releases of the year. If you find yourself in need of something upbeat to get you through the weekend this collaboration is the go to tune.

MENDOZA - LOVE DRUGGIE (ADDICT)

As far as releases go, Mendoza’s strong debut is one of the most exciting sounds I’ve heard all month. The message: Dance, drugs, and more drugs! It’s an enticing track driven by a steadily swelling bassline making it an irresistible listen that injects excitement to the listener and that leaves us in hopes of new material.

VINDATA - WIDE AWAKE FT. KENZIE MAY

From heavenly synths and dreamy backdrop Vindata is setting the chill factor to max right now. Their warm bubbly electronic track featuring the refined vocals of Kenzie May provides a rejuvenating listening experience. To continue on this high, be sure to catch the duo’s latest LP, Through Time and Space, out now.

NICO & VINZ - THAT’S HOW YOU KNOW (FUCKED UP VERSION)

And now for something totally unexpected. Nico and Vinz show us their acoustic side with a reflective song about their past with featured vocals from Bebe Rexha and rap game from Kid Ink. This is truly a gorgeous collaboration and very, very catchy.

IT’S WILD CARD - RED LICORICE

We are shining the light on a hella sexy track by Los Angeles artist It’s Wild Card. This kinds of track makes filtering through music worthwhile. The RnB tinted single showcases smooth vocals that has easily won my heart over. Anyone else notice the Prince resemblance?

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
