BEST INDIE POP MUSIC - WEEK 8 2014

2/19/14

Someone puh-leez crack open a window here. It’s starting to smell like steamy sweaty bootay mixed with an aroma of tasteful sophistimication. As you know, we’ve been hard at curating all week to uncover the latest and bestest tracks that the alternative indie realm has to offer. Honestly I think this may be the best PopSmut of the year. But if you disagree please by all means jot down your requests below. Hold the opinions for after you press play on the tracks below.

ERIK HASSLE - PATHETIC

Congratulations to Erik Hassle for proving the world wrong. Gingers do have soul and lots of it. Am I sensing a little Prince influence on his latest single, ‘Pathetic?’

INDIANA - SOLO DANCING

Allow me to save you some effort in searching for the next hot shit to explode in the pop scene. Her name is Indiana and this is her breakthrough single that is far too catchy to not be big. My gwad and her voice is freaking smoother than a waxed fruit.

THE DARCYS - HOLD ON, WE’RE GOING HOME [DRAKE]

Just when I thought that the S.N.A. (Stalker’s National Anthem) couldn’t get creepier, The Darcys step in and take it up a notch. Creep factor of 10 and wet panty factor high enough to make it place a position on this list.

MNEK - READY FOR YOUR LOVE [STRIPPED]

Wrap y’er ears around a track that perfectly crescendos its way to my favorite track of the week. One listen, and you’ll fall madly in love with MNEK’s voice. And if y’er perhaps doubting the 19 year old’s talent I suggest you visit his soundcloud above for more reasons of why we personally wuv him.

TOURIST - I CAN’T KEEP UP [FEAT. WILL HEARD]

Two of England’s best have come together to try and yank your heart out. How could something (this track) be so beautiful yet make one (me) wail like a baby?! So glad I didn’t listen to this track on V-Day. Speaking of Valentine’s Day, did you happen to check out the bands BitCandy would love to smooch with?

MØ - SAY YOU’LL BE THERE

Trust me, this one was a difficult one for me. I usually don’t like posting covers of artists who dare remake a track of the girl group responsible for revolutionizing the music world in the 90’s, but MØ’s cover is stinking irresistible.

BEYONCE - DRUNK IN LOVE [HUNT FOR THE BREEZE EDIT]

If you want your heart to melt and drip out of your mouth, then listen to my new favorite producer homage to Queen B’s hit, ‘Drunk In Love.’ In my opinion this remix is miles ahead of Kanye’s remix of the same track, which BTW you can listen to here:

JESS GLYNNE - HOME

Ladies and gents, this is the definition of ear porn. A a voice so powerful it will make your ears water, a tune so sweet that it makes our curating efforts so much more rewarding.

MEG MYERS - DESIRE [MUSIC VIDEO]

Holy crap...holy shitballs. Caution: resist the urge to touch yourself. A perfect video that accompanies a freaking raunchy track. The new I need a cigarette. We are so effing turned on. Meg Myers we’ll take you on top of an ice cream sundae with hot fudge poured all over your talented dirtay mouth.

ST. LUCIA - ELEVATE [RAEKO REMIX]

Quickly cooling you off with a remix that would perfectly fall into our Top Chill Out Songs of the week, but why wait till Friday to show this gem off ?! All you fans of Washed Out are sure to appreciate this kind of chill dance track. Well done, RAEKO.

I’D DIE WITHOUT YOU [CHILDISH GAMBINO COVER] P.M. DAWN

Leaving you to dry off with another layer of perfection, coming from Childish Gambino. I’m slowly starting to take dig him as an artist. A short summary for those not familiar with P.M. Dawn: one of the most overlooked artists of the 90’s whose major hit was “I’d Die Without You.”

-

That’s all for now. We’ll be back next week with more indie pop favorites. In the meantime I want to hear from you. How’d we do? Did we satisfy your sweet tooth? What was your fav track? Mine was Meg Meyers’ crazy ass track. Am I the only one who feels this week’s list felt like a sex session? Do you have any tracks you want us to feature on BitCandy?

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
