BEST ALTERNATIVE POP - WEEK 11 2014

3/12/14

Swear to god 15 minutes a day of scrolling through our Best of Posts is all you need to live a balanced and rich life. No BS, no drama, no bad news, just nonstop indie music for your listening pleasure, or in this case booty booty bouncing pleasure. In this week’s edition of PopSmut, we bring you the latest from your favorite electronic robots, a whack of a track for all you BARBZ, and some surprisingly great mashups. So perk them ears up to this week’s picks.

COMPUTERIZED . DAFT PUNK FT. JAY Z

Not sure why Computerized. did not make the cut on Daft Punk’s latest snooze album, Random Access Memories. Jay Z’ s flow is sooooooo boring and meh and wacked. But what else am I to expect from a Daft Punk and Jay Z collab produced by the God of Reason, Kanye. And quite frankly, this “futuristic” sound is sooo pre 2k14.

ZEDD - “FIND YOU” ACOUSTIC LIVE IN L.A. (FEAT. MATTHEW KOMA AND MIRIAM BRYANT)

OMgeee I’m like so happy for Zedd and like everything he’s accomplishing in the world of lamestream. Imma push this track to the back of my shelf and hope I never have to play it again, unless of course Zedd comes out with a remix of “Find You.”

BIG BOI - LANES (FT. A$$AP ROCKY & PHANTOGRAM & A-HA)

We’ve been on a Big Boi kick lately and digging his #MashupMondays. Last week we brought you a funky infused track. And this week, one of the most underrated tracks off of Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors gets a  brilliant psychedelic makeover with a little help from one the best 80’s songs ever.

YOUNG SUMMER - DON’T YOU WANT ME (THE HUMAN LEAGUE COVER)

Continuing with our 80’s theme, Young Summer smashes onto the arena thanks to the help of the show Grey’s Anatomy (had no idea it was still on air), who is infamously known for featuring flat covers of hit songs. It’s not bad, just prefer her originals.

J.PERIOD X JAY ELECTRONICA “IN THE SYSTEM” (J.PERIOD REMIX)

As a tribute to Notorious B.I.G.’s 17th memorial, J.Period and Jay Electronica brought back one of their previous tracks and laid it perfectly on top of Biggie’s tracks, “Niggas Bleed.”

YOUNG MONEY FEAT NICKI MINAJ - LOOKIN ASS

Young Money just  released a legendary (ummm no comment) album with music from your favorite A-list rappers including the always classy Nicki Minaj. You can expect your ears to be raped by the tracks off of Rise of an Empire, which is available for purchase as of yesterday.

BEAR HANDS - GIANTS

Please bear with me as we continue with my reasons of why I am drooling over post punk band Bear Hands. Light hearted dance worthy beats are the cause of wet pop music dreams.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - TKO (LIDO REMIX)

Woah, talk about keeping me on my toes. Haven’t really heard much buzz around Norwegian producer Lido, until yesterday, that is. His take on TKO is setting new standards. So refreshing.

SCAVENGER HUNT - LATCH  (DISCLOSURE COVER)

If you’re going to take away any key notes off of this week's PopSmut, I suggest you jot this down: Scavenger Hunt makes sexy as hell music. We’re keeping our eyes on the L.A. natives.

AZTEC RECORDS - MY MISTAKE

Excuse me as I submerge myself into the warm bouncy feel good vibrations radiating off of My Mistake. This tracks stands out as one of my favorites this week.

GREAT GOOD FINE OK. - NOT GOING HOME

I’m calling it out now: Future sold out shows for these guys in the near future. The trend of bouncy lighthearted music seems to be hot hot hot and these guys seem to do it so freaking well.

TLC VS HAIM - FALLING SCRUBS (CARLOS SERRANO MIX)

This is one of the few times I will be dancing to a HAIM song cuz technically it’s not really a HAIM track. Well done, Carlos, your magic is that of an expert level.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
