BEST INDIE POP - WEEK 23

6/9/16

The quest of uncovering new music is no easy feat. You music junkies and nerds know what I’m talking about. It takes many hours and countless thumb swipes to find the jewels of the internet, and they’re usually found deep, very deep, deeper than the hot 100s. Oh, and don’t get me started on the dangers of the navigation process. I’ve heard things that would make even the deaf cry. But the journey is all worth it because in the end we, as in myself and the BitCandy crew, manage to find the Best of Indie Pop Songs week after week. Today’s features will hit all the marks on your list. Well, at least I hope they do. If not, then suck it! Kidding!!! But seriously, enjoy the music from Flume, Clean Bandit, EMBRZ, and the others.

FLUME - LOSE IT FEAT. VIC MENSA

Flume’s fresh track, “Lose It” featuring Vic Mensa, did exceptionally well upon its release. In the first week it had the blogosphere, including us, losing their sh*t. Why? Well isn’t it obvious?! I mean hello, this is some next level production. Flume’s work continues to evolve in a progressive manner and the evidence can be heard on his new collaborative album, Skin. Grab your copy ASAP and be ready to lose yourself.

CLEAN BANDIT - TEAR (FEAT. LOUISE JOHNSON)

Dance pop extraordinaires Clean Bandit team up with fellow Brit Louise Johnson and execute another...yep you got it...another delicious track that is supposed to lyrically be the complete opposite of “Rather Be.” Listening to the new material makes more sense now that you know that dirty little fact.

BABY E. - CHAMPAGNE

Singer-songwriter Baby E. who’s currently signed to Young Money, is the definition of swag. Well, his music is swag. The man has the ability to produce material that keeps you engaged from beginning to end. At some point you expect some sort of huge build up, but instead he keeps it steady with a laid back melody. I promise you that this up and coming artist will not disappoint.

TEGAN AND SARA - BOYFRIEND (ROBOKID REMIX)

This is yummy yummy to my ears. Robokid creates electro pop deliciousness with his remix of our favorite sister duo’s track, “Boyfriend.” You can expect a faster pace and upbeat tempo that makes for a real interesting listen. Dive right in and enjoy the well put track. Just be cautious; your head will be spinning after you listen to it.

FALCONS & JUELZ - GYAL DEM MOVE

Bounce, bounce, bounce, let me see your booty bounce to the hottest trap record of 2016. Producer Falcons teams up with Juelz for a track so hot that it will leave your body drenched in sweat from all them sexy movements you’ll be doing. You bet that this will be playing at every club, every rehab, every pool party, etc, etc, everywhere. Hope you’re ready because there is no such thing as overplaying “Gyal Dem Move.”

EMBRZ - BREATHE

EMBRZ is back at it again with the positive vibes that remind us to sit back, enjoy the moment, and breathe. He’s become one of our favorites for house music because of well-crafted productions that bring peace in a world full of noise. If you’re in search of an escape, look no further than this right here.

BIBI BOURELLY - HALLELUJAH COVER FT JEAN PAUL AND CARL BOURELLY

I cry every time I hear “Hallelujah.” This beautiful song has been covered by many artists and in many styles, and now feisty songstress Bibi Bourelly steps to the plate to recreate it in a tasteful manner. With her family backing her up on instruments, the song possesses the quality that brings you back to center, whatever your center may be.

BETTY WHO - I LOVE YOU ALWAYS FOREVER

Donna Lewis’s hit song from the 90s gets a fresh little makeover by Australian beauty Betty Who. Oh the nostalgia! Who’s version stays true to the original with minor changes that keep it relevant to today’s listeners. This, my friends, is just a little “in between” as we wait for her second album to release. Yeahy!!! Glad to know she hasn’t disappeared from the music scene.

THAST - REP UR COUNTY (UNUSUAL MAGIC REMIX)

619, 619, 619, 619, 619, that’s what’s up! Represent! I have no idea how we uncovered this magical remix, but whatever, it works! It has traces of big booty bounce music like that of Big Freedia. And I hope your impression of the track is as good as mine and that you will enjoy the uncontrollable pelvic movements. Click right here to listen to the OG version.

JUNIOR PROM - STAND!

Indie pop duo Junior Prom has been quiet for some time, considering that their self-titled debut EP dropped two years ago. One would think they’re M.I.A., but noooooooo, they are back with a whole lot of anthemic pop songs like “Stand!” This single offers the kind of high energy you pop freaks love, and you bet that it’s catchy as heck. Listen to it, love it, and share it!

That’s all we have for you my amigos. Be sure to support the artists above and us of course. We’ll see you next week with more indie pop/alternative pop. Keep it fresh!

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
