BEST INDIE POP - WEEK 36 PART 2 2014

9/2/14

Hello everyone! Whether you spent your holiday weekend at a annoying family BBQ or scouring the internet for more hacked celebrity nudes (psssh…like you didn’t look), we here at BitCandy have you covered with even more of the best indie pop of the week!

LABRINTH - LET IT BE

Today we’re starting off with Timothy McKenzie, aka Labrinth, and he’s back with the first single off his sophomore album, “Let It Be.” The 25 year old singer/songwriter showcases his strong and sultry vocals on the track, while the video shows all the steps in the creative process (and be careful, you might just get a bit dizzy along the way).

QT- HEY QT

This track is full of synths and vocals that sound like they are sung by a cartoon, space-age princess that was born out of internet culture. I can’t decide if it’s electropop, J-pop, or something completely new. It’s bubblegum pop for the future and you have to listen to understand.

THE WEEKND - KING OF THE FALL

Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd is back with another new release and video, “Kind Of The Fall.” This is probably the most “up-tempo” song I’ve heard of his, though both its subject matter and sound is dark and wonderfully Weeknd-ish. The video takes you along on a slow motion stroll around the city that’s dark, sexy, and weird.

THE CHAINSMOKERS - KANYE FT. SIRENXX

No, this isn’t another “#Selfie”. These guys are back with an infectious, sing-along, party track featuring vocals by SirenXX. The chorus is awesome with lyrics like “I wanna be like Kanye/ I’ll be the king of me always/ Do what I want I’ll have it my way,” you can’t help but get into it because being like Kanye would be pretty rad (well, minus the Kardashian part).

VERITE - WEEKEND

I have loved every track this girl has been putting out and this track isn’t any different. She almost gives off some Lana Del Rey vibes in the beginning of the track as it slowly builds up to the hard-hitting chorus. It’s an epic pop anthem that I highly recommend.

JUST A GENT - SUPERFRIENDS (JUST A GENT REMIX)- ZHU

Aussie producer, Just A Gent is only 17 years old but is already making a splash with his insane remix of Zhu’s “Superfriends.” By adding on extra synths, and an intro that really pulls you in to the track, he gives the track a brand new bass-heavy vibe.

ELEPHANTE X LINCOLN JESSER- A TRILLION SOMETHINGS RIGHT

Lincoln Jesser’s smooth, electro-indie track, “Somethings Right,” gets a house makeover with Elephante’s awesome new remix, “A Trillion Somethings Right.” Elephante turns it into a party anthem with big synths that you can’t help but blast as loud as possible.

ANGUS AND JULIA STONE - CHANDELIER (SIA COVER)

That song that the casual radio-listener probably still thinks is Rihanna gets a cute and relaxed, indie make over by Angus and Julia Stone’s cover of the song. Featuring soft electric guitars and high yet smooth vocals, this version is a lot softer on the ears.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - H8M4CH1N3 FEAT. DANNY BROWN

The Neighbourhood change things up a bit with their latest track, “H8M4CH1N3.” Featuring Tumblr’s favorite rapper, Danny Brown, and an almost (and let me stress, almost) off-putting guitar riff, it proves The Neighbourhood aren’t afraid to experiment even if their alternative radio audience probably won't be into it.

FKA TWIGS- KICKS (SHINES REMIX)

Shines gives FKA Twig’s moody album closer, “Kicks,” an even moodier make over with his addition of electronic elements and vocal effects that add new life to the track. I think you just might even find yourself coming back to this remix more so than the original.

WONDER WONDER - BODY GOLD

London duo Wonder Wonder have totally grabbed my attention with their latest track, “Body Gold.” The track is a chill, electropop experience with sultry layered vocals and a drum a machine beat. It sounds just as classy as their James Bond artwork for the single.

HAERTS - GIVING UP

This Brooklyn four-piece is creating some wonderfully catchy indie-pop with their latest single, “Giving Up.” It’s full of synths, echoey drums, and lyrics that you’ll find yourself singing along to before the track is over.

BRAYTON BOWMAN - JAYWALK

Brayton actually hit us up on Twitter with his latest track, “Jaywalk.” This Philly singer/songwriter will totally help you get through your post-break up blues with this insanely catchy and uplifting track. It’s a wonderful mix of funk and electropop that shows off Bowman’s wide vocal range.

There you have it! And if you still haven’t checked out part 1, I highly suggest you do so. Bye!
