BEST NEW SONGS: FMLYBND “SAVE ME FROM MYSELF”

4/29/15

For the better part of the last 8 months, Bitcandy has basically become a FMLYBND filter. We’ve covered them as much as any other artist, and with good reason. All of their songs feel like top songs, and their latest effort, “Save Me From Myself,” is no exception.

With the dozen or so tracks they’ve released for public consumption, FMLYBND has shown that they can squeeze their tasty pop hooks into a wide-variety of styles. “Save Me From Myself” is the band’s darkest tune to date, but never fear, you’ll still be singing along to the chorus. The Isla Vista band foreshadowed this grungy turn with a cover of Pixies “Where Is My Mind?”. This song feels like it would have found some heavy alt radio rotation in the earlier 90’s.

Mac Montgomery channels Cobain and Cornell, and just kicks as in general as he helms the lead vocals on this track. You won’t hear a more angst-riddled vocal today. You also won’t hear a catchier song, which is what makes these guys so special.
