BEST NEW SONGS: MOULLINEX - BUILD A WALL?

1/31/17

When Luis Clara Gomez aka MOULLINEX isn’t busy splitting his time between Munich and Lisob where he creates remixes and works with popular artists like Cut Copy, Two Door Cinema Club or Peaches, he’s working on stuff like this newly released awesomely unapologetic new track, “Build a Wall?” According to his SoundCloud page, this track was intended solely to use for his DJ sets but he figured that now more than ever, this was the perfect time to release the anti-Trump inspired dance fest.

The track kicks off with a intricate ticking beat before funky bass synths and retro synth-blasts pull you into the groove and heart of the track. “Let’s build a wall, let’s build a wall” is distortedly repeated over and over again as the beat slowly builds upon itself until finally changing direction at the 1:20 mark. Swelling celestial electronics and a shuffling beat build until the menacing robot voice declares, “you’re not my president!”. Then, things slowly transform into more spacey electro sounds that all come to a halt once you hear the infamous line, “grab ‘em by the pussy!” From here on out you’re taken though a trickling house beat and funky bass synths that allow us to find some comfort during this strange time, even if it’s only for 3 minutes and 52 seconds. Thankfully there are artists like this in the world who can help us all dance and bob our way through whatever is thrown at us.

We’re also totally digging the track’s colorful 80s-inspired artwork, which was done by artist Bráulio Amado. Be sure to check out more from Moullinex here on his SoundCloud page.
