BEST NEW TRACKS: CHLOE BLACK "27 CLUB"

10/22/14

Somewhere Lana Del Rey (Or is it Lizzy Grant?) is cursing herself for not writing or at least somehow getting full control over the best new track, "27 Club" by Chløë Black.

The Aussie songstress' debut single is a wonderfully dark ode to the legions of absurdly talented musicians who have passed at the age of 27. Along with sounding like an outtake from Born To Die, making your first song about a yearning to die young so you'll be remembered forever is a total-LDR move. "Gotta leave a nice corpse" is essentially Lana's calling card.

Now based out of London, Black has made a bold statement here, both artistically and sonically. I'm sure they'll be the usual hand-wringing over the glamorization of death, etc., but who actually gives a shit or has time for that mess? What's really upsetting and disturbing here is the lack of a Jeff Buckley shout-out. I mean, C'MON!?!?!

Seriously though, this is a great song that'll I'll be listening to on repeat at least through Halloween. Get your first taste of it below:

Don't worry, I'll save you of going to Google and just provide you with the lyrics to Chløë Black "27 Club" here:

shotgun wound to the head so i
oh, oh oh
think about it every day and night
oh, oh oh
joplin, heroin, cocaine, cobain,
raise my hendrix to jimi
top shelf, despair, party hard, don't care
no one gets old in the city

going hard, going hard, wild hearts
crashing cars, crashing cars and stars
yeah we're burning and we'll never fade away
falling hard, au revoir, wild hearts

lifetime membership 27 club
can i get it?
lifetime membership 27 club
can i get it?

leave a good looking corpse behind
oh, oh oh
pay the price and get your name in lights
oh, oh oh
i'll bury you with your guitar
oh, oh oh
leave flowers on the boulevard
oh, oh oh

going hard, going hard, wild hearts
crashing cars, crashing cars and stars
yeah we're burning and we'll never fade away
falling hard, au revoir, wild hearts

lifetime membership 27 club
can i get it?
lifetime membership 27 club
can i get it?

joplin, heroin, cocaine, cobain,
raise my hendrix to jimi
top shelf, despair, party hard, don't care
no one gets old in the city

no one to pay, no one to fade
come and say my name, yeah
ain't no one to pay, ain't no one to fade
come and say my name, yeah
no one to play, no one to play
come and say my name, yeah

lifetime membership 27 club
can i get it?
lifetime membership 27 club

can i get it?
