INDIE CHILL - WEEK 8 PART 2 2015

Hello everyone! We’ve got a truly awesome batch of new chill out songs this week to curl up to with all of those red velvet Oreos you’ve been hoarding (don’t pretend like you haven’t been going store to store looking for those things). So grab your headphones and warm beverage of choice (don’t forget the Kailua!) and read on to hear the latest from The Land Below, Tulpa, Gordi, Jude, and more.

THE LAND BELOW - A MATTER OF TIME

Erik Lindestad, aka The Land Below is going to start things off today with his latest single, “A Matter of Time.” The track is wonderfully dreamy as it features interstellar electronic elements, a slow grooving beat, and the Swedish singer’s signature smooth croon. Things really take off about 1 minute in when you’re hit with space-age arpeggios and soaring vocals that make for a simply beautiful track.

TULPA - PRETTY THINGS

Pittsburgh-based producer Tulpa does something truly special with his piano-heavy track, “Pretty Things.” The self-described “16 year old tulip” mixes moody atmospherics, subtle electronic elements, and piano-based melodies that keep changing throughout the track’s duration—Like the smooth drum machine beat that’s introduced after the 1-minute mark which gives the mellow track a slight hip-hop vibe.

TULPA - AWFUL FEAT. LONLI AND YAEJI

That’s right—we’re digging Tulpa so much this week that we’re including him twice on today’s list. This time he’s rapping under his alias, Lonli, while teaming up with producer Yaeji on the intriguingly dark hip-hop track, “Awful.” The track shows off his unique flow and knack for creating awesomely quirky instrumentation.

JAASKA - SUNSET

Jaaska is still so new that they only have 16 likes on their Facebook page (hint hint), but it’s clear they’re doing something special with the comforting feel of “Sunset.” Sampling the classic song “So This Is Love” from Disney’s Cinderella, the producer adds rolling drums, shakers, snaps, and various modern electronic elements to create a smooth and groovy spin on the retro love song.

GORDI - TAKEN BLAME

New Sydney-based indie-folk artist Gordi definitely has one of my favorite track’s this week with her new single, “Taken Blame.” Featuring guitars, bubbly synths, busy percussion, and the 21 year old’s gorgeous vocals, the track serves as a soothing soundtrack for drifting off into dreamland.

YEARS

In this new track by Japanese artist YEVRS (or it might be YEARS? It’s hard to tell), things start off on a static-filled note with birds chirping and delicate keys that make you feel like you’re trapped in a fairytale. Eventually a subtle clicky beat is added along with soaring atmospherics that evolve throughout the track’s duration.

HEAD OF SALES - MISS AMERICA FEAT. CONNER YOUNGBLOOD

Head of Sales is an “anonymous aural project” that wants to stay anonymous, which is totally fine with us as long as they keep creating awesome and original tracks like this. “Miss America” is a haunting track full of quirky percussion, bubbly and booming electronics, and angelic vocals courtesy of Conner Youngblood that will keep you coming back.

// ryd //- dym

BitCandy-favorite Ryd (stylized as // ryd //) is back again with his beautifully eerie track, “dym // demo.” The track’s emotion comes from it’s minimal instrumentation as it features nothing but snaps, subtle guitar notes, and haunting atmospherics that swell beneath his gorgeously airy vocals. It’s a solid and well-crafted track that had me instantly going back for another listen.

JUDE. - WITHOUT YOU

We’ve been loving everything that Florida duo Jude has been putting out lately, and they’re definitely keeping their winning streak going with their latest track “Without You.” Featuring deep vocals, echoey guitar notes, and booming bass in the verses, things become even more intense once the stylishly haunting chorus hits. The track is off the highly recommended Bedroom EP which you can listen to now.

DREWXHILL - GOODBYE

Today we’re going to end things with the German/Danish duo DREWXHILL and “Goodbye” off their new EP, Bullets. The track is completely captivating with it’s interesting percussion, breathy vocal samples, and slowly evolving electronic elements that sound like something out of a futuristic rainforest. Once the vocals really hit just after 2 minutes in, everything starts to get more experimental and continues to change throughout the track’s 6 minute duration.
