NEW ARTIST FINDS: JAPE

2/24/15

If you’re ready to take a trip back to the 60s, while simultaneously feeling like you’re on hallucinogens, Jape is the new artist for you. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Richard Egan’s former side project brings a nostalgic sound, mixed in with a modern day sound rivaling Foster the People. It’s a 60s melodic pop sound, much like that of Simon & Garfunkel, but has its own brand to stand on its own. Give it a go, ya drunken bastard!

JAPE - THIS CHEMICAL SEA

You can’t help but want to dance with terrible hair. I feel like I’ve just been Rickrolled. “Séance Of Light” off the CD “This Chemical Sea” is what Foster the People would have sound like when my parents were young. This song offers almost a romanticized flash back to when action movies used practical effects and Linda Hamilton was still hot. A synthetic ride cymbal keeps the chorus steady and solid, with lyrics that don’t deviate from its punch.

You can hear more of Jape’s “This Chemical Sea” on their soundcloud, and I highly suggest taking a look at their music videos. I thoroughly enjoyed the video for “Séance Of Light” and you can view it below! Plus, who doesn’t enjoy a killer Irish accent? Keep checking back for more new music finds to make your day just a little bit more enjoyable.
