NEW INDIE MUSIC - WEEK 4 PART 2 2015

1/20/15

Hello everyone! This has been a pretty slow news week so far—I mean, it’s so slow that people are actually giving the baby (well, now young adult) from the cover of Nirvana’s Nevermind attention again for some reason. Anyway, I know I say this all the time, but we really do have a awesome list of new indie tracks for you this week! So read on to hear what’s new from Tei Shi, The Wombats, Mikky Ekko (yeah, he still hasn’t had a full-length out yet), Wand, and more.

TEI SHI - BASSICALLY

We’re kicking things off with New York-based singer Tei Shi (aka Valerie Teacher) and her brand new track, “Bassically” (see what she did there?) The track is mellow yet totally danceable at the same time, as it’s packed with a heavy bass line, lots of synths, and some seriously sexy vocals that prove she has an awesome set of pipes.

DOLDRUMS - HOTFOOT

Canada’s Airick Woodhead, aka Doldrums, just released the first single from his new album, The Air Conditioned Nightmare, called “Hotfoot.” The track is an interesting blend of raw electronics, bouncy synths, fuzzy drums, and melodic vocals that make for a awesomely loud and aggressive track.

VS - LONER

Perth-based new artist, VS (aka Tim Air) is bound to stir up some buzz with his catchy new single, “Loner.” His smooth R&B-style vocals effortlessly wash over the wobbly electronic elements and clicky beat that will make you want to listen again and again.

TOR MILLER - HOLD THE PHONE

Singer-songwriter Tor Miller will completely blow you away with his piano-driven pop ballad, “Hold The Phone.” His vocals are truly original and raw sounding, and get taken to the next level when a church choir joins in to provide the backing vocals. It’s a stripped down and raw track that packs an emotional (and quite catchy) punch, making it one hell of a debut.

MXMS - OMG

Ariel Levitan and Jeremy Dawson create self-described “funeral pop” under the name MXMS, and their debut single, “OMG” proves they mean business (and that they have a thing for abbreviations). The track features gorgeously dark piano, raw female vocals, and noteworthy lyrics that will have you clicking repeat instantly.

THE WOMBATS - GREEK TRAGEDY

Liverpool-based trio The Wombats show off their knack for writing seriously catchy indie pop songs with their new single, “Greek Tragedy” (off of their upcoming album, Glitterbug). The track has all the ingredients of a hit—big drums, catchy synth lines, dancey guitar chords, and cute and quotable lyrics (“We’re smashing mics in karaoke bars/ You’re running late with half your make-up on” being my personal faves).

THE DO - TRUSTFUL HANDS

New electropop duo, The Do, will have their new single “Trustful Hands” stuck in your head from the minute you press play. Featuring electric guitar, bouncy bass lines, bright synths, and singer Olivia Merilhati’s strong vocals, it’s a perfectly cute and catchy electropop track that will leave you wanting to hear more of their stuff.

THE DISTRICTS - PEACHES

Now we’re going to get a little bluesy with Pennsylvania-based indie band, The Districts, and their new single off their upcoming album, A Flourish and A Spoil. “Peaches” is wonderfully fuzzy guitar-driven rock and roll with raw vocals and a overall catchy vibe, making me excited to hear what the rest of the album will sound like.

MIKKY EKKO - U

It’s already been three years since Mikky Ekko collaborated with Rihanna on the hit song “Stay” (admit it— it was really good), and now the Louisiana-Native is finally getting ready to release his debut album, Time. Simply titled “U,” the track is catchy downtempo pop with an R&B flare that features magical sounding electronic elements, lots of claps, and the singer’s wide vocal range.

WAND - SELF HYPNOSIS IN 3 DAYS

Los Angeles-based lo-fi trio, Wand, just released their energetic debut single, “Self Hypnosis In Three Days,” and it’s totally awesome (plus the title is pretty rad by itself). Featuring fuzzy shredding guitars, pounding drums, and frantic vocals, it’s a psychedelic/garage-rock track that will keep you coming back.

So there you have it, even more of the best new indie tracks of the week! See ya next time.
