NEW INDIE MUSIC - WEEK 51 PART 3 2014

12/19/14

I know The Interview isn’t being released anymore and you’ve probably just lost like all of your Instagram followers but we’ve got something even better to spend your time on, and it won’t result in any sort of terrorist attack or social media humiliation. The final roundup of the best new indie music this week features Aquilo, Suede James, Our Girl, Flo Morrissey, Tom Aspaul and other cool breakthrough artists that you probably haven’t heard of. GET EXCITED, people!

AQUILO – LOSING YOU

This song brings up some seriously deep feels, especially if you’ve ever been a teenager. And what a beautiful music video for a beautiful track! If you’re still wondering if Aquilo was a breakthrough artist in 2014, I think this song settles it. Watch Part 1 to see the rest of the story and hear another track off Aquilo’s latest EP, Human.

ALL WE ARE – KEEP ME ALIVE

All We Are is a band out of Liverpool that really reminds me of the Scissor Sisters with this track. Even the music video is very Sisters-esque. You know, weird and completely enchanting. Playing with your perspective of reality is cool and all but what I really like about this is how it reminds me of the Scissor Sisters. Have I mentioned that already?

SUEDE JAMES – GREEDY MAN

What a perfect track to celebrate our one common trait as human beings over the festive season! We’re all super greedy, so we might as well dance about it. This track is still wayyy down in the depth of the underground indie music scene, but you may remember San Diego’s coolest new artist Suede James from his remix of Mating Ritual’s "Toxins." Pay attention music snobs, this guy is a keeper!

OUR GIRL – OUR GIRL

I’m really excited about this one! Like REALLY excited. This is the self-titled debut track from new Brighton band Our Girl and the world is loving it. Our Girl is getting a bunch of exposure in the UK at the moment and by the beginning of 2015, I bet they’ll be picked up in the States too. In fact, this might be the very spark to light that fire. Now isn’t that exciting?!

FLO MORRISSEY – PAGES OF GOLD

"Pages of Gold" is only the second thing we’ve heard from London artist Flo Morrissey and besides having a real cool name, her music is just as incredible. She’s got a set of pipes that’ll have your heart melting, and your underpants too. Her demo was released two years ago and if you like this at all, you have to listen to If You Can’t Love This All Goes Away. I expect great things from you, young indie princess!

BILLIE MARTEN – WINTER SONG

Here’s a song to throw on repeat and drown yourself in chocolate to, especially if you’re alone and it’s cold and Christmas sucks. It’s quiet, simple and totally mimics the general atmosphere of what everyone’s really feeling during December. Billie Marten is has a voice that you just want to curl up with next to the fire, but don’t forget the marshmallows and ice cream. You’ll need it.

ON DECK: DAEDELUS

OK, so this is exactly what you’ve been waiting for! A phat as f**k mix from L.A’s finest Daedelus. It’s 25 minutes of weird and wonderful sounds that you can throw on and trip out to. No, serious! Put it on, sit a comfy place to chill and let this track shift your reality to somewhere a little sunnier. This is a little unusual for a THUMP ON DECK session but all the more reason to love it and listen to it all season long.

TOM ASPAUL – GOOD TOGETHER

Get your groove on with this new bundle of love from Londoner Tom Aspaul. People are really loving this one and that’s probably because it’s catchy as hell. Slow things down and get in the mood for love with this short jam that’s bound to cause an influx in UK pregnancies this winter.

JORDAN KLASSEN – PIANO BROTHER

L.A-based Nevado music released this track by folky Jordan Klassen a while ago and I can’t wait until you hipsters get ahold of it. It’s sooooo good in an emotional roller-coaster kind of way. This is for all you vocal-lovers out there that just want a decent piece of authentic music every once in a while. If you’re sick of the electro s**t, here’s what you’ve been waiting for. You’re welcome!

SHY GIRLS – RENEGADE

Oh f**k yeah! "Renegade" is the catchiest track in indie music this week and what a way to end off a great week of new indie music. Shy Girls from Portland will be your new favourite artist, at least for the rest of the day. Listen to EVERYTHING and you’ll be a happy camper. I guarantee it!

That’s it, folks! Now calm your choppers down and share this with your friends. It’s the best free holiday gift that you can give this December, plus they’ll think you’re a super cool dude so that’ll like a gift for you too. I love giving greedy gifts! Happy holidays x x x

About Bianca Fernandes

Bianca Fernandes has an unfounded love for Taylor Swift and an unexplainable, burning hatred for Bob Dylan. In her opinion, that's the perfect combination to be a music reviewer. And she doesn't give an F about what you have to say about it. She writes for one person, and that's herself. Think grumpy cat with a weakness for music and watching Miley Cyrus twerk. But she does other things simply for cash, like social media, web content creation and some crazy blogging when necessary.
