NEW INDIE MUSIC - WEEK 7 PART 2

Believe it or not, we actually had enough time in between you-know-who’s Twitter rants to find even more awesome new indie music to share with you this week! We’ve got the latest from OK Go, Peaches, Lana Del Rey, VV Brown and more to remind you that there is more music out there than what the Grammy’s would lead you to believe. So grab your head phones and move on from the Grammy-week hoopla and read on to discover the best indie music and videos of the week!

OK GO - UPSIDE DOWN & INSIDE OUT

We’re kicking off Part 2 with a band who is better known for their viral music videos rather than the music itself…OK Go! Remember that band with the treadmill tricks? Well, they’re back with their brand new single, “Upside Down & Inside Out,” and it’s an upbeat bouncy track that is everything you’d expect in a fun (but forgettable) OK Go song. This time they’ve left the treadmills behind and are now defying gravity in a colorful and fashionable manner that your mom is sure to post on your Facebook timeline.

PEACHES - FREE DRINK TICKET

From her latest album RUB comes my girl Peaches and her hot new track, “Free Drink Ticket.” Booming and menacing electronics compliment the track’s stripped down drum machine beat, while her attitude-packed vocal delivery tears you down as she says lines like, “I want to be there when you implode.” The video itself has a super dark vibe reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer” and it’s totally worth checking out.

PENGUIN PRISON - SHOW ME THE WAY

From his new album Lost In New York comes Penguin Prison and his infectious new indie pop single, “Show Me The Way.” Uplifting guitars, bouncing keys, and a super fun melody will hook you instantly as he declares, “I don’t know what I like!”

BISHOP - RIVER

“Shut your mouth and rock me like a river!” Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter BISHOP demands in her soulful new single, “River.” Her vocals totally steal the spotlight on this track as a slow clap-filled beat and lonesome guitar licks set the stripped down mood. The intensity peaks just after the 2:30 mark as the claps and beat become more and more urgent before breaking into a fuzzed out breakdown that you’ll be singing along to in no time.

JOYWAVE - DESTRUCTION

You’ll find yourself dancing in your seat when you hear Joywave’s groovy new track, “Destruction.” Fuzzy lo-fi guitars and funky bass lines get you moving right from the very beginning, as dark and dancey synths show off the band’s fashionably poppy sound. The video itself center’s around the band’s destruction thanks to a first generation MP3 player joining the band, and it’s actually pretty funny.

LANA DEL REY - FREAK

Lana Del Rey isn’t a stranger to epic music videos, and this time she’s taken it to a whole other level with Father John Misty in the video for her Honeymoon-era track “Freak.” It’s a hazy dreamlike track that is definitely one of the album’s stand-outs. Join them on their Instagram-filtered acid trip as she asks you to “slow dance to rock music” and “kiss while we do it” while even getting some #FestivalFashion inspiration! (I mean, Coachella is just around the corner after all.)

V V - SACRIFICE

VV Brown makes a powerful statement in her video for her latest single, “Sacrifice.” The track is off of her album, Glitch, and the video features VV dressed in white face while Malcom X’s iconic 1962 speech introduces the track. The song itself has a beautifully haunting melody that will stick with you long after it’s over, while her unique and enchanting croon will have you completely enchanted.

WHITE WINE - WHERE IS MY LINE?

New band White Wine is the solo project of Joe Haege- formerly of Dodos & Menomena, and their track “Where Is My Line?” is a head-turning debut that we’re kind of obsessed with. Chugging guitars, pounding drums that include plenty of hi-hat action, and Haege’s soulful croon is totally addictive. Their album Who Cares What The Laser Says? is out March 25th and we can’t wait!

ARTHUR BEATRICE - REAL LIFE

We don’t know how, but new band Arthur Beatrice has not yet achieved mainstream success. We think that’s about to change any day though thanks to their passionate performance on their amazing new track “Real Life.” Strong and heartfelt vocals take center stage as shuffling drums and echoing guitars set the mood.
