SXSW 2015 - DAY 4

3/22/15

Exclusive photos by BitCandy’s Chris Chan.

It’s almost the end of SXSW 2015, and after spending the last few days trying to stay out of the rain and avoiding the many street performers on 6th street (no offense guys, there’s just only so many trashcan lid-bound acts we can take,) we’re excited to fill you in on more of the awesome performances. There were a lot of great acts to catch last night like Best Coast, Heaters, Hot Chip, and more!

Best Coast

We kicked off the night with Los Angeles natives Best Coast who played the Radio Day Stage at the Austin Convention Center. The band brought a little California sunshine to the rainy skies of Austin and played the dream-like title track from their upcoming album, California Nights, (due out May 5th) as well as older favorites like “The Only Place” and “Boyfriend.”

WILD CHILD

We then headed over to Blackheart on Rainey street to catch the Roll Call Records/ Indie Shuffle showcase, where we caught a set from Austin locals Wild Child. Featuring vocals from members Kelsey Wilson (violin) and Alexander Beggins (ukulele,) the indie folk band performed songs from their new album.

HEATERS

Heaters

Over at the Panache Showcase which took place at Hotel Vegas, we caught an awesomely reverb-heavy set from Grand Rapids-based trio Heaters. Their sound was hazy psychedelic garage rock, and we totally recommend their track “No Fuss.”

TWERPS

Twerps

Still hanging around Hotel Vegas, we checked out Melbourne, Australia’s Twerps. The four piece totally won us over with their ‘90s-alternative sound (kind of reminiscent of Pavement with some Sonic Youth sprinkled in) and ended up being one of the highlights of the night.

DELICATE STEVE

Delicate Steve

We then saw Delicate Steve who Chris perfectly described as “Ratatat drinking Dirty Projector’s Koolaid,” and the crowd was super into it. Their deliberately misspelled song, “Afria talks to You” was the highlight of the set and they ended up being the pleasant surprise of the evening.

LA LUZ

We were very excited to see Seattle-based four piece La Luz and their awesome lo-fi surf-pop sound that’s packed with plenty of “ooohs.”

ON AN ON

On An On

After spending most of the night at the Panache Showcase, he headed back towards the Roll Call Records/ Indie Shuffle Showcase at Blackheart where we caught Chicago and Minneapolis trio On an On.

HOT CHIP

Hot Chip

Finally, we ended our evening at the Samsung Milk Music Lounge where we managed to squeeze into the packed crowd for Hot Chip. The Londoners played a crowd-pleasing set featuring tracks like “Huarache Lights,” “Over and Over,” and “Ready For the Floor.” At this point we were pretty hungry and the East Side Kings food truck was serving some delicious looking food. But at $10 a plate, we figured grabbing some Whataburger afterwards was the better option. #keepingitreal
