TOP ALTERNATIVE POP - WEEK 12 2014

3/19/14

Warning to my fellow music tastemakers: you will most likely get a secondhand high from listening to the latest batch of the best indie pop songs of the last seven days. So grab a chewable toy, a pair of spanx, and a nice cold refreshment because your body is about to move to the rhythm of Sia, The Hood Internet and more. And as much as I love you all, I am not responsible for any damage your body may cause. I’m just the messenger delivering great tunes.

SIA - CHANDELIER

Despite the above lyrics falling a bit flat for me I am a huge fan of her soaring voice
Umm, hello it’s Sia. What’s not to love? She’s THEEE hottest producer at the moment I would ever want to work with if I was in the recording biz.

THE HOOD INTERNET - DIGITAL HUMPTY (DIGITAL UNDERGROUND x ST. VINCENT)

Not everything in life makes sense, but it sure is good: i.e. pickle juice with Hot Cheetos or The Hood Internet’s funky mashup talent. There’s nobody out there like them at the moment. If you’re looking for solid mashups, you should look into their SoundCloud page.

BRICK + MORTAR - LOCKED IN A CAGE

Woah, the best and freakiest thing I’ve seen in the last 24 hours. Brick + Mortar really know how to deliver a clear message of feeling dark and disturbed. No wonder they made it onto the list of the best unknown artists of SXSW 2014 that you should keep your eye on.

RAC - STRANGERS PT.1 (PREVIEW)

What do Kele, Tegan and Sara, and Tokyo Police have in common? They are all part of RAC’s newest album, Strangers Pt.1... and the music is so good. Have a listen. This ear tease is courtesy of RAC. Gawd, I love a good tease.

TOM SWOON, LUSH &  SIMON - AHEAD OF US (LYRIC VIDEO)

Someone needs to get Krewella on  the phone and tell them that thanks for their music Tom Swoon and the forces of Lush & Simon are climbing their way to the top of Beatport.

BIG BOI - PART TIME HATER (FT. KID CUDI & STEVIE WONDER)

And just like that, Big Boi concludes his awesome series of Mashup Mondays. In case you’re late to know, you can check the entire series on, yup you guessed it, SoundCloud. Oh crap, looks like Dancing With The Stars is the only thing left to keep me looking forward to Monday’s. Big Boi ... please come back.

DAFT PUNK - DA FUNK (NIGHTCRAWLER REMIX)

Either you’re gonna hate it or you’re gonna love it. I dig the 80s setting on the Daft Punk’s track. And come on, you have to agree that this is the freshest Daft Punk’s sounded in the past year.

POP ETC - I STILL HAVEN’T FOUND WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR (U2 COVER)

The minimalistic production was the first thing that caught my ear. Pop Etc. to quote Little Nicky, “...is fucking awesome.”

THE HOOD INTERNET- HEAR IN ONE MINUTE MISSY ELLIOT x MILOSH

A double dose of The Hood Internet for ya. It’s my post and I’ll post what I want to. Come to think of it, I think we should make a weekly post dedicated to The Hood Internet. Thoughts?

JOHN MARTIN OFFICIAL - ANYWHERE FOR YOU (TIESTO VS. DZEKO & TORRES REMIX)

The gods of house music unite. Arrrghh eargasm at 2:33. I love it when it takes foreverrrrrrrr for the beat to drop. Makes the high hit harder.

TOVE LO - HABITS

This song is going to be huge this year. It has to be, especially since we can all relate to the pain of Tove Lo. Girl, if you’re reading, much love to you from us to you, call us if you need a buddy to stay high with all the time.

LAUREL - TO THE HILLS (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

Lana Del Lips, scootch on over, I’ve found a replacement. This up and coming artist whose much-hyped track, “Fire Breather,” was previously featured, has dropped a new video for another gorgeous self-produced song. Head over heels!

Apparently we’ve come to the conclusion of yet another PopSmut, but you lucky guys, y’all don’t have to wait till next Wednesday to get your addiction fix. We’ve got daily servings of the top songs from around the webz. Yeahy youuuu!

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
