TOP INDIE POP - WEEK 16 2014

4/17/14

I don’t know about you, but after the way the first half of the week, I am in serious need of an escape from reality. And what better way to mentally escape than hip thrusting my frustrations to the sound of the latest and best indie pop songs that the internet has to offer. A dose of the tracks below will jolt any hipster dead or hungover back to life. And if this list not enough, just wait till Friday for a Part Two.

SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL - REVERSE

A despair & distraught always makes for a great lyrics. If this is your first time listening to the Ohio band, Some Kind of Wonderful, I can only assume you are as convinced as I am that these guys are destined for fame. Their debut single is the type of track that captures the heart of those who listen.

BENZEL  - FALLEN LOVE

Every now and then we like to throw you off and slow things down for you by adding songs that are perfect for sweaty bumping and grinding a.k.a. sexy time. If the beat produced by teengagers Umi and Yoko doesn’t get you in the mood, the video sure will.

AVICII - HEY BROTHER (AVICII BY AVICII)

What’s better than a new track from Avicii? An Avicii track remixed by Avicii. There’s no more concentrated form of douche than a brah who gets paid kazillions to remix his own tracks. Well done, Avicii.

TOM SWOON, LUSH & SIMON - AHEAD OF US (ACOUSTIC VIDEO)

We love to see artists running with the wave of success. The acoustic version is a candy flossed arrangement that is as captivating as the original masterpiece.

JOSH RECORD - BURN IN THE LIVE LOUNGE

I can’t actually remember the last time I had goosebumps from head to toe. You know, the kind that really leave your skin really sensitive that any kind of touch sends you to a full outbreak of arousal? For this I thank you, Josh Record. Your cover of Ellie Goulding’s Burn is gorgeous.

DEV - KISS IT (EXPLICIT VERSION) FT. SAGE THE GEMINI

Definition of hot mess: The video for the latest ice cream truck tune. It’s a mix between The Real Housewives and an Old Spice commercial.

CHERUB - DISCO SHIT

Hands down, Disco Shit is one of my favorite funky sexy pop tracks released this month. Although we’re a few months shy of the warmer nights, our ears are melting to the summery vibe bleeding from the latest offering of Cherub.

MNEK - EVERY LITTLE WORD

Indulge yourself in the latest offering from MNEK. Such a mature sound for being so young, one that I’m impressed with. There is deep depth in his music crafting. I don’t think the world is ready for this sound, but this is badly needed.

LITTLE DRAGON - PARIS ( ZANE LOWE RADIO RIP)

You know it’s a hot record when the prophet of music, Zane Lowe, says it is. Don’t question his prediction; all will reveal itself with time.

That’s all the pop goodies for today. I’ll be back tomorrows with more finger licking tracks. Until then drop us a comment below telling us about what you think should be featured on next week’s edition of PopSmut. Ciao babies!!!

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
