Top Indie Songs - Week 36 (10 Favs!)
Here is hoping that this week's top indie songs provide some respite from all of these Masters Of War. If only we could all kiss, make up, and run through a forest with Anna Calvi! Anyway, thanks to those Curators who helped us out with this week's picks from The National, Arctic Monkeys and, of course, Miss. Calvi. If you have got what it takes to be a Curator, click over here! (Artwork by Nicole Jarecz.)
The National “Graceless”
The National were harmed during the making of this video. Jokes aside, Matt Beringer calls this the most brutal video that The National have ever done. Cuts, bruises and hangovers all likely occurred.
BitCandy is unconditionally and irrevocably, cheeky Twilight reference, in love with you, Daughter. Talking of Twilight, “Smoke,” the flip side to “Youth,” would have been at home on the soundtrack.
Anna Calvi “Eliza”
Anna Calvi runs dripping wet through a forest in the new video for “Eliza.” If that does not turn you on, read this YouTube comment from, uh, funlovingnun: “OMG freeze frame 2:09. You're welcum.”
Arctic Monkeys “Stop The World I Wanna Get Off With You”
Queens Of The Stone Age, sorry, Arctic Monkeys get us totally stoked for AM and drop “Stop The World I Wanna Get Off With You,” the flip side to “Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?”
J Dilla “Workinonit”
This week, Stone Throw Records uploaded “Workinonit,” from J. Dilla's opus, Donuts, a record that Dilla worked on while being treated for the blood disease that would ultimately take his life in 2006.
Gap Dream “Shine Your Love”
“Everybody in this whole wide world has gone straight up insane.” Best opening line, ever? Gabriel Fulvimar channels his inner Ray Davies on the new single from Shine Your Light, due in November.
Ghost Loft “So High”
Fans of Active Child, Washed Out, The Weeknd and other one man chillwave bands, dig upon Ghost Loft's “So High,” the video for which is like a cheaper take on Justin Timberlake's “Tunnel Vision."
Lost Scripts “I'll Be Watching You”
“I'll Be Watching You,” by Pional and John Talabot's Lost Scripts, launches a fresh new vinyl series, YT2013, from British label, Young Turks, home to The XX, Wavves, Chairlift, Holy Fuck and more.
MT Warning “Youth Bird” (Curator Duffster)
“Youth Bird” is the latest cut unveiled from MT Warning's forthcoming debut album, which he wrote alongside filmmaker, Taylor Steele. Duffster also thinks that “Burn Again” is worth having a listen to.
Postiljonen “When All The Wild Things Die” (Curator Duffster)
It might not have made it on to Postiljonen's debut album, Skyer, but do not think any less of “When All The Wild Things Die” If anything, it proves how good Postiljonen are to have leftovers like this.
That is it for yet another week, hipster kids! Keep your shit together, as BitCandy is back with the top indie songs next Monday. Meanwhile, why not sign up to be a Curator, or talk to us in the comments?
