Best of Indie - Week 27
(Photo / Art by Jules Julien)
Happy 4th of July weekend, les Americaines! And happy not 4th of July to not Americans? Who cares, let's just all light off fireworks and listen to some of the bestest of the best Latest Music Tracks this side of the Atlantic! And a few from the other side as well. We try to keep some international flava on tap at all times here at BitCandy. And we usually succeed!
Contained within this column you will find... a whole lotta awesome! Not to mention...the next Florence Welch, Doe Paoro that starts off our piece...also...new A Place to Bury Strangers, a band called Slowdance, Bjork, a 17 year old rapper from Harlem who sounds like he belongs in the 90s with A Tribe Called Quest, and your mom. Just kidding. But really... your mom was here last night. Don’t tell her I told you. Just scroll down and listen and quit whining, ok??
Doe Paoro - “Born Whole”
If Florence and the Machine were a little weirder and a little less white, they would sound like Doe Paoro. I can’t get enough of her voice! It’s so... interesting, for lack of a better word.
Slowdance- “Boyfriend”
With an 80s synth that sounds like a Cure song, this track definitely accomplishes Slowdance’s mission of “trying to recapture that first thrill of late-night romance."
Joey Bada$$- Survival Tactics
This may or may not be indie, but I’ve had this 17 year old Harlem rapper’s mixtape, 1999, on repeat since it came out a few weeks ago. He’s effing 17! Sometimes... life is just not fair. Take note of this name, it won’t be the last time you see it!
Pop Etc. - Live It Up
If R&B and chillwave could have offspring, this would be it. A nice summery jam with a sick beat!
A Place to Bury Strangers - “Revenge”
Something new from A Place to Bury Strangers! Prepare to have your eardrums buried by this down and dirty, noisy as hell, punk-influenced track.
Violent Femmes - “Blister in the Sun”
We couldn't let a Best of Indie post go by without including a classic...like "Blister In The Sun" (ahh you clever masturbation metaphor lyrics!). The band I used to play in would cause riots ending the night with this song.
Taquwami - “Blue”
Who knows where I first heard this… but it’s a perfect 3 a.m. type soundtrack to the end of an LA night. Now where did I park??
Björk - Mutual Core (Matthew Herbert's Teutonic Plates Mix)
When Bjork speaks, (and/or sings, and/or yodels) I listen.
I would like to officially thank Bjork for always keeping life weird. Viva la Iceland! Now get out and enjoy your 4th of July, just be careful with those illegal fireworks. No one likes blowing themselves up. We’ll be waiting next week, same time, same place, with another round of shizz. And by shizz i mean Latest Music Tracks! I can feel the love through the internet tubes.

New Singer/Songwriter: K.S. Rhoads
Nashville seems like the type of place in which you can't swing a bat without hitting a singer-songwriter. Standing out in such an over-populated crowd takes more than talent, luck, and hard work.
