In Defense of Mac Miller, Or to Be More Accurate, In Defense of His Single “Knock Knock”
I'm fully aware that the trying to defend Mac Miller is probably the worst possible way I can introduce myself to the BitCandy community. Just a few months ago his debut album was vehemently dismissed here, and in every other corner of the 'tastemaker' universe.
And really it should have been. That album was terrible on every conceivable level. He's also, by all appearances, a douchebag. I mean, just look at him:

...He looks like a combination of every wigger-stoner-skater-burnout you went to high school with. He appears to be the type of guy who thinks he's hilarious for buying a shirt from Noisebot. His lyrics are trite, formulaic, and he routinely wastes tremendous beats. All you can really say about his music is that it's "frat rap," which, as far as I'm concern, is pretty far from a compliment.
And to top it all off, he has a very punchable face.
Yet, in spite of all that, I'm going to try and defend him. Well, not him so much as his single, "Knock Knock."
Now, up until December 14th, 2011 I have been doubtful of Mac Miller. His music is the type that tends to completely miss my radar. But on that fateful night last month, I was introduced to his song "Knock Knock" by an unlikely source: HBO.
While watching the first episode of 24/7: Flyers-Rangers I saw the following scene about the Philadelphia Flyers Victory Song:
Now even if you don't like sports, you have to admit that dancing around like that with your teammates after a win seems like a tremendous amount of fun. And by itself, so is "Knock Knock."
Or at least it is as long as you don't have to look at Mac Miller when you're listening to it.
