NEW INDIE MUSIC - WEEK 12 2014

3/18/14

Glad to be back and here with you guys. The weekend was long, hot, and brutal, but nothing like a fresh start to a new day like an all new list of the top indie songs to get us pumping blood. And yes, we cater to everyone’s ear, i.e. grunge, chill, pop, and sad sobbing songs. So whatever your likes may be, I’m sure we’ve got something for you, and if we don’t, feel free to let us know what we missed in the comments below. Enough of my yapping, I’ll leave you to the music. Enjoy:

TOBACCO - ERUPTION (GONNA GET MY HAIRCUT AT THE END OF THE SUMMER)

Tobacco is no stranger on the BitCandy grounds. With notable psychedelic dark grungy lyrics and sounds, it’s a given that any new release of his will be featured in our "best of" posts. Speaking of lyrics, check out these: “Young things don't exist, like the mothafuckin shadow of a mothafuckin wish. Yummm, this is just icing on the grunge kik I’ve been secretly craving." Grab your copy of his latest EP, Ultima II Massage, dropping mid May.

SATCHMODE - BEST INTENTIONS

The more I listen to music, the less I know. I swear I’ve heard of these guys before, but I can’t pinpoint exactly where. Perhaps it was that one time I lost consciousness and saw the light that led the way towards the pearly gates of indie pop heaven, or perhaps not. Either way, Gabe and Adam have created a track with longevity; a track that will stay with you long after it’s over.

CAPITAL CITIES - ONE MINUTE MORE

Damn you, Capital Cities! Why do you make me smile? You know I hate smiling and feeling lighter than the soul of a child. You’re music is so potent. Is there anything you do that doesn’t make me feel like the sun does shine?!

JAGWAR MA - UNCERTAINTY (EWAN PEARSON REMIX)

Well, here’s something a bit out of the ordinary. Ewan Pearson’s addition of his own personal flair blends seamlessly with the original dreamy track of Jagwar Ma. Imma need to dive into more of Pearson’s work because I love what I hear but don’t know much about him except he’s been making music since the day most of you were in diapers.

TALOS - TETHERED BONES

A broken heart never sounded so beautiful. “Tethered Bones” is an incredible whirlwind of sound, steered with driving heartbeat-like percussion and dreamy layers of piano. Can’t wait what Eoin French will deliver next.

SEAWAVES - BORN TO FLY (PLANET OF SOUND REMIX)

Anybody who has the right mind to name their group after a Pixies song is obviously someone who has excellent musical taste and talent. I was recently introduced to music of British act Planet Of Sound and have been a bit hooked on all their offerings. Really hoping this remix gets them noticed as it is equal to, if not better than, the original track.

HUGO - DARK DAYS

So much mystery behind the shadow who goes by the moniker of Hugo. The internets do not know the exact location, gender, or breed. According to his social media streams, we are all Hugo. Well, I object to that. It takes a special creature to perfectly engineer this kind of hypnotic music. Debut EP, I Am Not Hugo is out now and available via SoundCloud.

MEG MYERS - DESIRE (HUCCI REMIX)

Soon after the sexiest/dirtaayest song of the year came out, flocks or producers rushed to remix Desire. A standout in our book comes from UK producer HU₵₵I, who manages to give the track a darker tone that the original track lacks.

FARAO - TO SLEEP APART

After the first listen, I really questioned this pick for making it onto the "best of" post. It’s one of those tracks that just takes a while to build up and after playing it several times you realize that this is delicate beauty paired with great vocals. Dark, sad, cold, enjoy the emotional ride.

COIN - IT'S OKAY

Nashville quartet has become this week’s indie pop obsession. Just a simple upbeat song. As a kind of newish band, these guys only have a couple of tracks to their name, so as we wait for them to load more infectious danceable tracks, enjoy what they so far.

-

I hate it when the list comes to an end. I would really be here all day if I could, but I must go check what recent tracks have been uploaded on the internet. Feel free to submit your finds. We would love to know what you are currently listening to. Heck, if we like what you’re digging, we might feature you on BitCandy as a curator. More about that here.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
