Today's Candy: Nirvana – Lithium (Live)
"Lithium" was the third single to be taken from Nirvana's 1991 LP, Nevermind (an album we all know requires no introduction from me). And while BitCandy will always adore the studio cut, “Lithium” - which is about a man turning to religion following the break up of a relationship - is even more mind-popping live.
The following footage is taken from MTV's Live and Loud, which was filmed in 1993. Watching the crowd react to the dynamic change when Cobain slams down on his Electro Harmonix Big Muff for that HUGE chorus gives me goosebumps. To the haters: THIS is why Nirvana are 100 percent worthy of their hype. I mean, WHERE is this kind of energy, excitement and plain emotion in music nowadays?! Fuck!
(FYI: That guy on the second six-string is the awesome Pat Smear, who you may best know as the Foo Fighters' on-off-but-currently-on third guitarist.)
Watch Nirvana's entire Live and Loud concert here. You're welcome!
Lyrics:
I'm so happy 'cause today
I found my friends
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, that's okay
'Cause so are you
Broke our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday
For all I care
And I'm not scared
Light my candles, in a daze
'Cause I've found God
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah
I'm so lonely, that's ok
I shaved my head
And I'm not sad
And just maybe
I'm to blame for all I've heard
I'm not sure
I'm so excited
I can't wait to meet you there
And I don't care
I'm so horny, that's okay
My will is good
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah
I like it I'm not gonna crack
I miss you I'm not gonna crack
I love you I'm not gonna crack
I killed you I'm not gonna crack
I like it I'm not gonna crack
I miss you I'm not gonna crack
I love you I'm not gonna crack
I killed you I'm not gonna crack
I'm so happy 'cause today
I found my friends
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, but that's okay
'Cause so are you
Broke our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday
For all I care
And I'm not scared
Light my candles in a daze
'Cause I've found god
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah
I like it I'm not gonna crack
I miss you I'm not gonna crack
I love you I'm not gonna crack
I killed you I'm not gonna crack
I like it I'm not gonna crack
I miss you I'm not gonna crack
I love you I'm not gonna crack
I killed you I'm not gonna crack
