TOP ALTERNATIVE POP - WEEK 15 2014

4/9/14

Oh lordee lorde. Today’s list of the best indie pop songs is hotter than the gawd awful heatwave we are experiencing here in Southern California. Tracks so hot they'll melt your face off. Lucky you, not everyone can experience this list of fabulousness. Turn up the volume, grab yourself some ice cold sizzurp cuz it's about to get steamy in here. Oh bonus points if you share this list with them hot friends of yours.

OH HONEY - BE OKAY

This band sounds like nothing that would come out of Brooklyn. It's too clean. It's too happy. It's too chirpy. Brooklyn is dark and grungy and breeds fuzz. Oh Honey proves everything I know about that Burroughs wrong. A pleasant ray of sunlight.

DIPLO - BOY OH BOY (TWERK EDIT)

No need for introduction here, people. Just a boo boo booty twerking hell of a track. It's a dirty good time.

CUT COPY - IN THESE ARMS OF LOVE

Cut Copy creates a perfectly remote soundscape. The slow building spacious track is the kind of tune that makes me want to pack a six pack and go for a long quiet drive up the coast somewhere.

TWO (THE BAND) - KEEP YOUR HEAD UP

It’s hard to keep up with so many songs day in and day out. Luckily this pop synth ballad did not slip through our radar. It’s truly a blissful track, but umm...am I the only one who thinks that this is similar to the sound of our BFF’s Hiam? Cheers to hoping I am terribly wrong.

STYLE OF EYE FEAT. SOSO - KIDS (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

I’m heaping praise onto Style of Eye for his excellent choice of pairing up with Swedish pop singer Soso. The production seems effortless and those vocals compliment the high energy of the mix so well. My appetite is hungry for more, I can’t get enough.

KLAXONS - THERE IS NO OTHER TIME

The Klaxons are back, the Klaxons are back. These guys hold a very special soft spot in my tiny heart. Totally diggin' their funky fresh sound. Be on the lookout for their album dropping June 2nd.

BIG BOI - MRS VANDERBILT TOLD ME

Big Boi needs to continue with his Mashup Monday series. He’s on a good one. This is probably the only time you will hear Kelly Rowland, Paul McCartney, and Wings on the same track.

SOMO - SHOW OFF

You want to know how to tell if an artist is going to be huge or not? Answer: By having a shit ton of tweens chew you off when asking who he is and why I’ve never heard of him.

Shame on me for not knowing who SoMo is. The RnB crooner already has a cult of tweens backing his every move. Only a matter of time before he blows up. Debut album out now.

SAGE THE GEMINI - COLLEGE DROP

I could see the college girls twerk their ass to this, and highschool girls and my 8 year old cousin. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the video for the track, I recommend you YouTube it. All you ‘How High’ fans are in for a treat.

BLEACHERS - I WANT TO GET BETTER (VINCE CLARKE REMIX)

Yes Clarke! Yes! Yes! Yes! You heard Bleachers cry and you made it better. In my opinion, anything with more synth always sounds better.

KATY PERRY- DARK HORSE (STARCADIAN REMIX)

Starcadian has worked his lo- fi magic into the one of this year's Billboard hits, and let me tell ya: Holy shitballs, I never thought Katy Perry would ever sound classy. Nicely done, now we need to work on classy-ing up that image of hers.

That’s all the pop tunes I have for you this week. Hope you enjoyed listening through the list as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a margarita calling my name.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
